Programming Options
Choose the programming option that matches your application:
No Programming – APIM is supplied without vehicle-specific programming.
Factory Replacement Programming – FREE for vehicles originally equipped with SYNC 3. We program the APIM to your vehicle so it arrives ready to install. Simply replace your failed factory APIM with the programmed replacement — no dealer visit or additional programming required.
Upgrade / Conversion Programming – Available for vehicles being upgraded from SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 or from a factory 4” system to an 8” SYNC 3 system. Additional programming fees apply depending on the application.
IMPORTANT: This listing is for the APIM only. If you are performing a SYNC conversion or upgrade, this does not include the screen, bezel, USB hub, wiring, brackets, or any other components that may be required for your conversion.
APIM Generations
As a general guideline:
2018 and older vehicles: Gen 3
2019 and newer vehicles: Gen 4
Newer-generation APIMs are generally backward compatible with older vehicles. Older-generation APIMs may have compatibility or performance issues when installed in newer vehicles.
Newer generations feature updated hardware and are generally considered to offer improved reliability and performance, particularly in high-temperature environments.

2016 Model Year Vehicles – Important Information
If your 2016 vehicle was factory equipped with SYNC 3, it must have the updated USB hub to be compatible with the newer SYNC 3 software supplied on our APIMs. The original 2016 USB hub is not compatible with this newer software.
Upgrading the USB hub will also enable Apple CarPlay. If your vehicle has already had the USB hub upgraded for Apple CarPlay, no additional USB hub upgrade is required.
An incompatible factory 2016 USB hub is not a defect or compatibility issue with the APIM. Returns will not be accepted solely because the original USB hub does not function with the newer SYNC 3 software.
